I have to wonder if mammoths were "Hunted" not
primarily for their meat, but due to the fact that they
posed such a threat.
They were huge. They could be aggressive. And, ah,
and Neanderthals (etc) didn't enjoy being trampled
to death by a raging pachyderm.
Probably was enough to ruin their day...
I mean, we tend to assume that Homo hunted for
food but, look around. People hunt for a lot of
reason. "Sport" being huge amongst them.
Dangerous animals, "Man eaters" are regularly
hunted. In this country, if a bear or a lion kills
someone the standard response is to "Destroy"
it i.e. hunt it down and kill it.
Not for the meat, but because it's dangerous.
Why would it be any different in the past?
