  • More refined observations regarding Venus

When Venus comes within range of the C3 camera moving from right to left in direct motion, it appears to move slower than when it moves from left to right in retrograde motion.

The cause of this is that the distance covered is the same as objects moving closer to the observer as opposed to objects moving further away as the object appears smaller as in the case of Venus-

All this is dependent on a basic observational fact. The change in position of the background stars relative to the central Sun, from left to right or from an evening to morning appearance, is a demonstration of the Earth's orbital motion.

When Venus passes behind the Sun and on the opposite side of the solar system to the slower moving Earth, it displays its bright hemisphere to us so its brightness remains constant as it presently demonstrates. When Venus passes between the Earth and the
central Sun, its brightness dims as it shows more and more of its dark hemisphere to us at the point it overtakes us-

These descriptions are similar to the ones which Galileo presented in 'The Starry Messenger' yet are easier to account for using all the advantages of 21st century technology-
