Well Mr Stardust, although many feel in some way superior to flat Earth convictions and those people who follow the conviction out of mischief, the wider academic community is unable to be ashamed of itself by being lacking any sort of logic. In this
case the head of any scientific organisation or institute is no better or worse than you are.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth

If the people supporting a 17th century fiction that the planet turns at a rotation velocity of 1040.4 mph while the Equatorial circumference is 24,901 miles, that means the planet turns an abysmal 24,969.6 miles in 24 hours.

I wish observers had a sense of occasion to realise what unnecessary damage they are creating, however, if they are then I haven't seen it over the two decades I have been posting here.

You are fine Mr Stardust, however, others who should know better are less likely to consider their position here even when there is nothing top be gained by insisting the planet doesn't turn once in 24 hours when measured by a clock in tandem with the
Lat/Long system generating an Equatorial rotation velocity of 1037.5 mph coincident with an Equatorial circumference of 24,901 miles.

It is much for you to believe in a flat Earth out of mischief than imagine a planet that doesn't turn once with a sunrise/noon/sunset cycle every 24 hours.

That _would_ be awkward, but, of course, believers in the Flat Earth do not believe any such thing.

Because in addition to believing in a flat Earth, they also utterly reject the Copernican theory. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn are just tiny lights
in the sky that move around. And the Sun goes around the Earth just like the Moon.

I see nothing "abysmal" in saying that the Earth takes 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4
seconds to rotate instead; instead, this seems to me to be only the natural acknowledgement that Copernicus was right, and Tycho Brahe was wrong.

The day, of course, remains 24 hours long, and is much more important to daily life
than the absolute or sidereal rotation period of the Earth, however, which is a technicality only of interest to astronomers. In this respect, I am in agreement with
    you.

I genuinely regret the lack of consideration which traces all timekeeping to its roots covering the references for the calendar system which are bound together with the seasonal change in the position of the stars-

    https://sol24.net/data/html/SOHO/C3/96H/VIDEO/

Then there is the 24 hour cycle anchored to noon within the sunrise/noon/sunset cycle where the average 24 hour day derived from the equalising noon correction (EoT) substitutes for constant rotation hence the human achievement of the Lat/Long system
    with all its benefits.

The Equatorial rotational velocity is 1037.5 mph, hence the planet turns its 24901 mile equatorial circumference in 24 hours. If people choose to believe otherwise, then they are simply boring rather than the mischievous flat Earth proponent.
