First time I hear about a U-2 plane flew over the Chinese balloon?
So. Why the need for a F-22 to shoot it down?
The SR-71 can fly even higher 80k feet or more!

The use of a U-2 for studying the balloon has been openly discussed
since the balloon was still over land. Not sure how you missed that.

U-2s don't carry weapons. There are no active SR-71s.

I heard something, but nothing in detail, about the U-2 flying by the balloon? I read, the U-2 will be armed with missiles against shipping.
Yes, the SR-71 was retired in 1999?, or so!
But what I read, NASA still use 2 SR-71 for research?
In my opinion, US just using the balloon attack to increase the tension between the 2 country, which is already been boiling over Taiwan!

Could have easily brought it down gradually by shooting some holes into the top of it. releasing the helium.
The Biden made up some story about it being "dangerous" to people below, unlike the one they shot down over the Yukon.

I don't think the U-2 has ever carried weapons, except maybe for

This was not up to Biden, except formally. I'm sure that he was taking
advice from the intelligence community, and they were working with a
    lot more information than you.

Indeed, I suspect they wanted it to continue over the country. They
almost certainly gathered a heck of a lot of intelligence from their
    long period of observation.

The thing is on the hairy edge of flyability and aerodynamic stability
as it is. I don't think anybody is going to try arming them to deal
with balloons. Especially as we can obviously shoot down balloons with
standard weaponry if we need to. Not that we're likely to need to.
It's not like this one was necessarily even intended to cross the U.S.
And I doubt we're going to see many more, if any. And they're not much
    threat in any case.

The SR-71 can't fly at all. It has been retired. U2's are no longer used for espionage; they're too easy to detect and shoot down. The few remaining U2's are mainly engaged in scientific research (weather, earth sciences, astronomy).

First time I hear about a U-2 plane flew over the Chinese balloon?
So. Why the need for a F-22 to shoot it down?
The SR-71 can fly even higher 80k feet or more!
The SR-71 can't fly at all. It has been retired. U2's are no longer used for espionage; they're too easy to detect and shoot down. The few remaining U2's are mainly engaged in scientific research (weather, earth sciences, astronomy).

Over 30, U-2s are still in service!
