"Away, therefore, with all the scientific moonshine that would connect men with monkeys; that would have the world believe that humanity, instead of resting on its own characteristic pedestal — gloriously independent — is a sort of sliding scale,
making one extreme brother to the ourangou-tang, and the other to angels, and all the rest intermediates!" Frederick Douglass, 1854

In some ways, coming to this comment section is like arriving in Afghanistan where it is absolutely forbidden to share the information that 5 years after Douglass wrote that observation, natural selection of Darwin emerged with that exact conviction in
    mind-

“At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilised races of man will almost certainly exterminate and replace throughout the world the savage races. The break will then be rendered wider, for it will intervene between man
in a more civilised state, as we may hope, than the Caucasian, and some ape as low as a baboon, instead of as at present between the negro or Australian and the gorilla.” Darwin

I am greatly troubled with my 21st-century contemporaries who seemingly are unable and unwilling to untangle racial/biracial/interracial/racism from the Human Race. I am information sharing rather than proving a point but rarely do these comments survive

Natural selection was a colonial expansion excuse synthesised with a breeding opinion. It has nothing whatsoever to do with biological and geological evolution as faunal succession. The Victorian academics tried to create a version for the Human Race
    through favoured/less favoured 'races'.

'On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life' Charles Darwin, 1859

A less favoured 'race' looks like this-

" Or as Mr. Greg puts the case: "The careless, squalid, unaspiring Irishman multiplies like rabbits: the frugal, foreseeing, self-respecting, ambitious Scot, stern in his morality, spiritual in his faith, sagacious and disciplined in his intelligence,
passes his best years in struggle and in celibacy, marries late, and leaves few behind him. Given a land originally peopled by a thousand Saxons and a thousand Celts—and in a dozen generations five-sixths of the population would be Celts, but five-
sixths of the property, of the power, of the intellect, would belong to the one-sixth of Saxons that remained. In the eternal 'struggle for existence,' it would be the inferior and less favoured race that had prevailed—and prevailed by virtue not of
its good qualities but of its faults." Charles Darwin, 1871

I believe they are publishing a book tomorrow called 'On the Origin of Time'

In this case, it was "cancelling" history, which the Left LOVES to try to rewrite or expunge. The Left, who used to proclaim themselves bastions of free-speech in the 60's, are now the book-burners of the 21st century.

What is this "faunal succession"? What _causes_ some forms of fauna to succeed others?

Natural selection is a *mechanism* that can *cause* the result of the fauna of a later period being different from that of an earlier period.

It is deduced from observing the different breeds of dogs, and cats, and cattle that humans have created, and concluding from this that if humans can intentionally
favor some of the possibilities within natural variation in a species, and cause
change by so doing, then change can also come about because some of the natural variation is more conducive to survival and reproduction than the other possibilities.

This is sound reasoning. Of course it was _misused_ to justify racism - but then so
was the Bible, such as the curse of Ham. That Darwin and other early evolutionists
lived in a bygone age where everyone just assumed Africans and indigenous people
were inferior is unfortunate, but it is not in itself a reason to reject those of their
    insights that were sound.

Your position on natural selection seems to be of a piece with your position on universal gravitatiion. We don't need a theory like Newton's universal gravitation
to explain the motions of the planets in the Solar System - God could have His angels push the planets around in their paths! And, similarly, we don't need a theory like natural selection to explain evolution - evolution can just be directed
by God as His way of creating life.

The position that Science should just stop poking its nose into how things work,
and instead we should just sit back and admire the Universe... is, fortunately, not a popular one these days.

Natural selection found its final destination in the WWII Holocaust where the Nazis reheated the doctrine through a fictional Aryan 'race'-

" Under proper guidance, in the course of the final solution the Jews are to be allocated for appropriate labour in the East. Able-bodied Jews, separated according to sex, will be taken in large work columns to these areas for work on roads, in the
course of which action doubtless a large portion will be eliminated by natural causes. The possible final remnant will, since it will undoubtedly consist of the most resistant portion, have to be treated accordingly, because it is the product of natural
selection and would if released, act as the seed of a new Jewish revival" Wannsee Conference, 1942

Recently the geneticists tried to stem the damage by attempting to walk back natural selection to eugenics and issued a false apology on that account. The fact is, no matter how hard they try, they will be unable to escape the original conviction that
the Anglo-Saxon 'race' was meant to represent the pinnacle of creation through extermination and invasion policies by misusing the Earth science of biology-

"It is very true what you say about the higher races of men, when high enough, replacing & clearing off the lower races. In 500 years how the Anglo-Saxon race will have spread & exterminated whole nations; & in consequence how much the Human race, viewed
as a unit, will have risen in rank." Darwin

Darwin had the breeding data; however, it was Alfred Russel Wallace who first made it backwards compatible through the dominance of aggressive societies over native cultures-

"One day something brought to my recollection Malthus's "Principles of Population," which I had read about twelve years before. I thought of
his clear exposition of "the positive checks to increase"--disease,
accidents, war, and famine--which keep down the population of savage
races to so much lower an average than that of civilized peoples. It
then occurred to me that these causes or their equivalents are
continually acting in the case of animals also... because in every
generation the inferior would inevitably be killed off and the
superior would remain--that is, the fittest would survive... The more I
thought over it the more I became convinced that I had at length found
the long-sought-for law of nature that solved the problem of the
Origin of Species." Alfred Russel Wallace, 1858

No person can ever appreciate solar system and Earth science research who lacks the spirit/inspiration of the Human Race with all its diverse cultures and complexions.

“I pray not only for them but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me" Jesus

    https://bible.usccb.org/bible/john/17

Those who find inspiration where there is none and there is nothing good about natural selection, will never find it in Earthly, solar system, galactic and Universal things. Such a self-condemnation is impossible to bear.
