• NASA making big mistake on proposed Mars propulsion system

From RichA@21:1/5 to All on Mon May 22 04:49:17 2023
Watched a moron on NBC attempting to describe NERVA (nuclear propulsion) and he ham-fistedly equated it with the RTG's used on Voyager when asked if NASA has used "nuclear propulsion before." The problem is, NERVA is a weak though possibly durable power
source but it will not get a craft to Mars as fast as they'll need to without major problems. What NASA and the U.S. should do if they want to resurrect a 60's technology is Project Orion.

Orion was a stupid idea then, and an even stupider one now. It is
entirely inappropriate and impractical for travel inside the Solar
    System.

Nuclear thermal rockets make much more sense for getting to Mars.
