    SpaceX starship crashes
    https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/04/20/science/spacex-launch-starship-rocket

Looks like it starts oscillating, longitudal vibrations...
    probably ripped it apart.

You are being too critical. It didn’t crash!
It was only a rapid unscheduled disassembly before stage separation.

    OK :-)
Wonder how long it wil take for the next test

As to mechanical oscilations, I think I remeber some writing that Von Braun
had similar problems with the V2 ? an Apollo mission rocket.
He had some professor sort it out, lots of math involved.

I don’t this is a problem with maths. I would have thought that
after so many years since the V2 we would have sorted the maths out.
I think SpaceX has reached the limit on size vs strength. It’s just too
big. And to make it lightweight it loses tensile strength. I
This is a Hindenberg moment for launch vehicles.
Not that I don’t wish Them luck. After all anything will

Well it is indeed a very long thing and all sort of mechanical resonances will apply.
If the engine direction control loop is not properly adapted to it
(likely software in this case) it will lag or lead in thrust direction correction..
Control loops are not such a simple thing... I have written some in software. OTOH the right control system should make even a sort of unstable system flyable..

Yes, I was hoping to see people on Mars in some years....
It might unite humanity like the moon landings did.

    Well here we disagree.
US is just a bunch of Mafioso that makes war abroad to sell (crappy) weapons. after Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, now Ukraine.
They make other countries slaves of their imperialist behavior.
Like the Mafia, it sells protection (by NATO for example), and if you do not accept their protection they attack you.
CIA's mission is to poor fire on any uprising in the world so the US Military Industrial Complex can sell.
Wars away from their own bed, like now in Europe.
China has a different system and is now way ahead of the US technically, soon will have their own reusable rockets too.
And likely will have Chinese restaurants on Mars when the US astronuts (if ever) land there, and those will have to pay in Chinese currency
    and landing rights the same..
Musk lost it when buying Twitter, but I do have hope the the great engineers at SpaceX will get things working right.

In the end it is one ant heap against the other here on earth, wars are part of evolution, the best one will win..
If the nuking takes of (I expect soon) we may fall back into hundreds or thousands of years of madness
like we already have climate change madness now..

So Mars will impress me, moon not so much ...

And even then, when / if US lands on Mars and finds signs of life
will it simply deny it as it did when the Viking lander experiment was positive for life?
NASA partly payed for by republicans that believe earth was created 4000 years or so ago,
Adam and Eve, will deny extraterrestrial life if it bit them in their face.

All hope for finding life on Mars is on China now :-)

The problem with NASA is that they say they found signs of life in some Martian meteorite, JUST before they needed new funding
    then dismissed it after that.

Reduced to some astronuts doing acrobatics in zero gravity driving around the block so to speak, clowns!

Job creation program... They even admitted that on NASA TV.

We could have had nuclear propulsion and a few days trip to Mars long ago. Those projects were scrapped due to induced nuclear fear in the masses ...

Much like the US Military Industrial Complex burning people in wars it deliberately starts / provokes.

We have a lot of export products, chips is not a big part:

Energy prices went up as much as 100 % in the last year due to the war in Ukraine and cutoff of Russian

We grow carrots, but personally I eat kiwis a lot from New Zealand...

Was watching one of those survival series on DMAX (Astra 1 satellite) in German just now, shows you how to survive in the wild...
Some people ejoy that so much they want to stay...
So, when WW3 starts, maybe what will be left from the US is just a bunch of black warlords
    eating each other...
Some cities there are already into it if I understand the news right...
So no worries about food, plenty of human flesh available.

Survival on other worlds? I have heard the Intergalactic Travel Agency warns hem aliens
to avoid planet Earth as it is infested with humans, those are considered dangerous..
They keep some of our species in cages for other aliens to see, like we keep alligators and opossums in our zoos.
    just FYI.

All hope for finding life on Mars is on China now :-)

And by the looks of it Elon Musk is helping pay for China
    to get there first.

I wonder if Musk got as much cash from Beijing in his brown paper bag
    as Trump did?
I dunno, other electric vehicles made in and by China are a big competito= >r to Tesla of course.

I do believe in cooperation, it is the only way.
    I had a business.
US sanctions because it is afraid of the competition is silly..
As is US blowing up the Russian gas pipeline to Europe to sell their own =
    gas.
Would you do business with somebody who deliberately damaged your stuff?=

No wonder US dollar is lower every day.
People just turn to more reliable partners and currencies.
That same US forbids ASML in the Netherlands to sell the latest chip tech=
    nology to China,
US being afraid China makes better chips (it will eventually when everybo= >dy in the US has bought
climate change snake oil and is living in grass huts to be green).

But think about it Jan. (I’m not familiar with Dutch policy etc) >Yes,...Maybe the US forbids ASML to sell their tech to China. OK not nice >for the owners of ASML who maybe aren’t as rich now as they hoped=

because it costs more to make chips in Holland because of high
    wages,taxes etc.
But the upside is the chips are still made in Holland. Because if China
had its way,..ASML would have sold their chip tech to China and the chips=

The chips using their technology are actually not made in Holland,
but in places like Taiwan IIRC, AND in the US!!

would all now be made in China. And you wouldn’t be able to go out = >shopping
anymore in Holland because everyone would be unemployed ( everyone except= >for the owners of ASML who now live in style in Majorca anyways) and try
to kill you for our shoes as you went to buy a bag of carrots for 200,000 e=
    uros.

We have a lot of export products, chips is not a big part: https://tradingeconomics.com/netherlands/exports

Energy prices went up as much as 100 % in the last year due to the war in Ukraine and cutoff of Russian
gas due to US forcing the EU to sanction Russia.
    Conned again Jan.
    Here’s what actually happened...
Right wing free market capitalists based in Holland ,UK along with Russian oligarchs
etc,..(who donate cash to right wing parties like Macron, brit Tories and Dutch BBB)
speculated on gas prices when they realised they could make big £$¥€.
And artificially escalated the price of gas to make themselves as
much cash as possible. Thanks to their poodle politicians in the various
    right wing EU political parties.
Proof of this is that the price of energy is, it didn’t go up universally.
It went up by whatever these right wing scum could get away
    with in their respective countries.
And notice in the UK, possibly the most corrupt right
wing kleptocracy in Europes history, the price went up not
    by 100% but...by 300%!
Even though in fact UK was *far* less dependent on Russian gas
    than Holland.

Making EU its slave and destabilizing it (by getting their puppet Boris to leave the EU).
Because the Chinese now had all the jobs and cash and could afford to buy >carrots .....and ....chicken! to go with their carrots!!!
Whereas you could only barely afford the carrots. And have to
eat them raw because you couldn’t afford to cook them either.
We grow carrots, but personally I eat kiwis a lot from New Zealand...

Was watching one of those survival series on DMAX (Astra 1 satellite) in German
just now, shows you how to survive in the wild...

They keep some of our species in cages for other aliens to see, like we keep alligators and opossums in our zoos.
    just FYI.

I was in N America east coast and tried to get into Canada to Montreal, but was refused
as I only had 15 USD or so..

I told them 'I will find work' but that did not help,
    so they send me back.
Then I tried to find a way to cross the border, talked about it in a bar close to the border
US border agent overheard me, got arrested, they stamped my passport and gave me 2 weeks to leave the US.
Many years later I got a new visa for the US after some discussion at the US embassy here...
I lived for a while on the Canadian border in the wild, water from a stream... One of my adventures I had..
But I like warm climates more, it can get pretty cold there.
