Scientists have identified signs of breast cancer in the heroine of Michelangelo's 1512 fresco "The Great Flood"
This was realized by the deformed left nipple, signs of carcinoma in
the right breast and bulges in the armpit.
Experts believe that Michelangelo intentionally depicted pathologies
to show "divine punishment for sins." He was interested in
anatomy and participated in dissections of bodies starting at the age
of 17.
