It's about MONEY of course, no higher principle involved.

They're pissed about the video streamers kicking back
about zilch. They're also freaked by the rapidly-emerging
capabilities of "AI" systems - which can make a passable,
programmable, image of actors. Some have said they've
been approached for a detailed "scan" - likely high-rez
right down the the little hairs - plus voice samples.
With that, they don't NEED the actual human anymore.

The MOST impacted, straight off, would be the "extras",
the people always mulling around in the background of
scenes. They don't get big money, but it can be enough
to make a living and, hey, they might get 'discovered'.
I've seen AI-generated videos where everybody in the
background - say the crowd in the bleachers of a sports
event - were ALL imaginary. They looked real, acted real,
but weren't. No union wages for THEM.

As the AI's get better (and it's happening FAST), some
of their avatars might actually become popular unto
themselves, a new species of "star". THIS FALL,
    RAMBO-7, STARRING AI-47b !

Oh well ... I guess it's "Buffy" re-runs for the next
    six months .......

    Hey, what's the BBC got ? They're not SAG/Teamsters.
They used to have lots of funny stuff, but lately it's
just been depressing and boring nature docus. "The
Red-Scotrumed Minor Leaf Lizard seems likely to
become extinct in the next decade due to cow farts ! ...

Just eat the fuckin' lizard Attenborough - last
chance to see if they're tasty ! :-)
