Facing the largest potential United States strike in 60 years,
United Parcel Service has begun training non-union workers
to ensure that deliveries of critical goods like prescription
medications will not be interrupted.
Currently, about half of UPS's workers are members of UPS
teamsters, which voted overwhelmingly to strike if the
company does not reach a new deal with the union by
July 31st. The company has agreed to a number of the union's
demands, but the union is still seeking substantial pay
raises for both full and part time workers.
. . .
Looks like UPS has had it with the union - now
actively recruiting new non-union drivers.
In the UK and France, extreme union demands have
caused chaos and sharply driven-up consumer prices
which has resulted in many political problems.
Admittedly, JoeFlation (well, it's not JUST the USA)
has amounted to an effective wage decrease for UPS
drivers. Thing is, it's the same across the board.
Their RELATIVE wages remain about the same as all
other workers. The only segment that seems to have
gained are those making near-minimum wage due to
wage mandates and a general post-Covid labor shortage.
Most unions still push the idea that there's endless
money out there and employers are just being cheap
and cruel. Might have been true in the 60s, but NOW
there really ISN'T endless money out there - a lot
of businesses, and nations, have been running in the
red for a long time. China screwed us all.
