During WW1 Wilson nationalised telephony, creating the ATT monopoly.

Given the times, and the big war we were getting
into, I can see WHY he might have thought that to
be a good thing. It wasn't really however ...
'Radio stations' really weren't a thing in 1917 or
he'd have probably created a US 'BBC' as well.
The left (esp the comms unions) argues telephony should be natioanlised
on the grounds the Constitution calls for nationalised post office.
But is telephony (or 'The Net') a "post office" ???
They can emulate some functions of a postal service
but not all. I still send tax documents and certain
critical bills via the postal service rather than
'online' or by phone. A tangible service with tangible
and legally-recognized kinda un-forgable receipts for
sending/receiving is still vital. UPS or Amazon can give
you a receipt for such, but it's not govt, not under
govt scrutiny, your 'proof' COULD be contested.
