Can you live on Social Security alone in 2024?

Housing makes up the biggest share of retirees expenses (35%)

    . . .

Short bitter answer - HELL NO !

    You can't afford a single-wide with three
Venezuelan cartel flunkies with the typical
SS check. Basically, stake out yer territory
under the nearest interstate overpass ...
America's reward for your decades of hard work.

Now when SS was conceived "Waltons" style
multi-gen homes were far more common. Today,
not - not at all. The parents alienated their
kids and grandkids and all live in some roach-
    infested crapholes.

Where did all the SS money GO ?

    NOT to Granny.

INSTEAD the govt has 'borrowed' from the fund
to a mass degree over the decades. The pols
don't want to be responsible for raising taxes
so they sneak the money out of 'invisible'
accounts and drop in some worthless IOUs.

Unless you have significant investments and
saved-up cash and preferably a GOOD pension,
    you're kinda SCREWED. A 401 ? Bring up the
calculator app and work THAT out - AND
    they'll TAX you on it.

SS won't save the day. VERY few people are THAT
prepared. They work, and spend/over-spend, right
up until they have to retire and then it's all
    "WHAT The Fuck ?".

Come on, we KNOW how people ACTUALLY think (or
don't think). They WILL spend like crazy right
up until the last second, maybe five, even six,
digits of high-interest debt. Everybody wants
to live WAY above their means, LOOK rich. Bitch
all you will, this IS how most are wired-up.

Back in the 90s I knew a guy - braggart by
nature - who had this whole wallet FULL of
credit cards. This was when everybody got a
bunch of offers in the mail every month. He
LOVED to pull out the whole wad of them and
flash 'em in everyone's face. All were charged
to the MAX. NOW ... last I heard he was living
with some other guys in single-wide ... ALL $$$
long gone. He's at SS age now ... but liked
to do biz in cash mostly so SS never even
saw most of his income. MIGHT score $800
    a month, maybe ........

    And that's the Real World.
