Could someone please tell if there know which government department would
hold copies of early phone books for NSW I am searching for Crookwell area earliest phone book please

Findmypast has some NSW phone books but not sure if Crookwell is included. You could use it at your local library etc.

All the State Libraries have a huge collection of phone books for their own state. I was chasing a phone number in Grafton and NSW State Library were magnificent - 'Ask a Librarian' service VERY under-utilised! And of course, free.
