    Rationale: It's true that you can meet people through other newsgroups
    but you do not always have the guarantee that they will want to have
    penpals.


    30 years ago, there were newsgroups and they may have been active but something or someone has destroyed it. Penpals is a nice name for a troll to hang out in, but after that who wants a hacker penpal? Not me.

    Having this newsgroup makes it easier to make friends without
    possibly searching endlessly.


    If I had to use the internet to find a friend then that doesn’t say much for me or what I can offer a friend in return. Real friends come in real time not online.



    As one person said to me during the rfd:

    One person? Who is that one person?

    Yes, I can tell a lot about a person from an opinion or two,



    In soc.penpals, people would list post some of their interests so
    others would get an idea about whether they'd like to correspond with
    them or not.


    How many people actually listed their interests? In the beginning did innocent people like me know the mailing lists were hacked?


    Also, this newsgroup has often been compared to
    alt.personals.
    Never visited it..why would I?

    There is one major difference.

    There is no major difference, all of Usenet is a cesspool for losers.

    There would not be any
    anonymous postings.

    Spew is a keyword that I have used to identify the trolls..

    Therefore, without the
    anonymous postings, we may get rid of some of that.

    I fully agree, anonymous posters are the lowest form of life. They hide to hack my life, wont confess their crimes and when they cannot stand themselves any more they drink or pray to God.

    these names trigger me..so when i am on twitter minding my own business, leave me alone. you have usenet, you ruined it.
