In October 2023, we received an anonymous call about a girl being sexually abused.

Our initial inquiries led us to identify 38-year-old Ogochukwu Diayi as someone we wanted to speak to, and he was arrested later that day.

Following a thorough investigation, including brave evidence from his victim, he was charged with five counts of rape, two counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and one count of threats to kill.

Diayi, of Dyas Avenue, denied all of the charges, but was found guilty following a trial.

On Friday (17 January) he was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court to 16 years in prison.

He was also handed a restraining order and made to sign the sex offenders register.

DC Amelia Rose, from West Midlands Police Child Abuse Investigation Team said: “This sentence is reflective of the awful abuse suffered by the victim. She has shown tremendous courage throughout this investigation.

“West Midlands Police encourages anyone who has suffered abuse to come forward.

“You will be supported, and you will be believed.”
