    "all time record" means what the writer means. it doesn't mean anything
    in itself.

    Probably it is not all-time record but just since 1979 that is
    still from times before their existence for many.

    In this case it means "since we started keeping records;
    maybe a century, during which we're still recovering from
    the Little Ice Age".

    It might be worth recollecting the voyage of the Endeavour with Sir Joseph Banks
    where scientific recordings of sea temperatures at various depths was part
    of their data collection efforts. Similar work was done on the Beagle during Darwin's voyage.

    Of course the modern era of satellite measurements is a legitimate shift
    in magnitude and scope of our ability to take extensive measurements,
    but still worth recalling some of the beginnings.

    There are almost no records what so over. morons think
    that people by the thousands were swimming all over
    the oceans centuries ago, taking temperatures, but that's
    why we call them morons.

    We just came off a triple-dip La Nina, COLDER THAN
    NORMAL OCEAN TEMPERATURES, and all through it
    the freaks screeched about "Record highs."
