From MarkE@21:1/5 to All on Fri Aug 25 22:14:32 2023
If, say, the leading OOL researchers all came around to agree with James Tour* (i.e. that the progress of science in this field to date reveals a widening gap in how far we are from a naturalistic explanation for the origin of life) and declared this
publicly, what response do you think there would be?

    My guess:
    50% - “Whatever”
    30% - “That’s interesting…but it has no real impact on what I believe about who/why I’m here”
20% - “What?! I might reconsider my metaphysics…or at least be more circumspect when arguing with religious people”

Yup, "whatever" very much sums up my reaction. Conversely, if scientists come up with a set of theories that is so detailed that even people who think the Tout challenge is meaningful felt "yes, that's it", my response would be “That’s interesting…
but it has no real impact on what I believe about who/why I’m here”

Can't speak for anyone else. My response would be "Come on guys, keep trying." But neither your hypothetical (ie seems like there'd never be an answer to OoL) nor the converse (ie a well-established, well supported, detailed explanation for OoL) would
have any impact on my views about God. They are totally unrelated questions.

You left out the obvious option of "If Tour is correct I either have to
give up on my Biblical religious beliefs or deny his claims."

There is also the option of "I may have to change my Biblical religious
    beliefs if Tour is correct."

It looks like most Biblical creationists posting to TO have opted for
denial of the Top Six as anything worth supporting their religious
beliefs. Glenn may have opted to just pretend that Tour isn't making
the argument that he is making, and has decided to remain willfully
ignorant of the Top Six as being anything relevant that is being
    discussed by IDiotic type creationists.
