    My computer has the tendency to simply use my university credentials
    when accessing journal websites, which means I often don't know if
    they are open access or not - but even if not, looking for the author's
    website may help, as more and more self-archive.

    Off-hand, is this the sort of thing you are looking for?
    Edward H. Hagen and Shannon Tushingham: The prehistory of
    psychoactive drug use. In Handbook of cognitive archaeology
    (pp. 471-498). Covers nicotine, caffeine, betel, cocaine tec.

    This is probably too simplistic for you -
    one of my PhDs who is very keen on
    "science for and with children" has send it
    my way - but again, looking for the authors'
    websites may give you more; and more "adult"
    material

    I'll just remark that I've been told that other
    animals are attracted to naturally arising alcohol,
    although this doesn't happen as often as is claimed.

    <https://africafreak.com/marula-fruit>
    says that elephants do /not/ get drunk
    on this fruit, and at least one "documentary"
    was faked to show it. In fact the film maker
    added alcohol of human origin to the fruit.
    Enough to knock out an elephant, must be a lot.

    <https://empressofdirt.net/do-animals-get-drunk/>
    says that koalas don't get drunk on their main food,
    either. Though someone I was inclined to trust
    told me that they do.

    There's catnip, of course.

    I've seen wild boar trip on fly agaric - reindeer apparently do too
