SALISBURY, Md. (TND) — A Maryland repeat offender was found guilty Thursday of violently carjacking, robbing and raping an 80-year-old woman.

Court documents say Ralph Anthony Harmon, Jr. of Salisbury, Md. was convicted on 11 felony and four misdemeanor counts stemming from a mid-January incident that started in Seaford, De.

The elderly victim told police that Harmon assaulted, tied up, and forced her inside her vehicle parked outside her home, court records show.

The Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office told The National Desk (TND) that Harmon was just kicked out of a Delaware halfway house for “rules infractions” immediately prior to coming into contact with the victim.

Harmon was living in a halfway house due to a prior violent criminal conviction.

Harmon started the two-hour-long interaction with the victim outside her home. After assaulting her, he forced the Delaware woman inside her car and drove 45 minutes to a Maryland pharmacy.

Once arriving at the pharmacy, Harmon raped the 80-year-old, stole her credit cards and ordered her to untie her shoes.

The suspect used the shoe lace {sic] and tied [the victim’s] hands in the front. The suspect order [the victim] to lay face down in the front passenger seat with her hands underneath her,” according to Ralph Anthony Harmon, Jr.’s charging documents.
“[The victim] believed the suspect was looking for a place to kill her.” After this interaction, Harmon drove to the nearby Wicomico River, forcing the victim onto on a pier.

With the elderly woman’s hands still tied with her shoelace, she was struck in the head with Harmon’s handgun and pushed into the frigid January water, according to police documents.

The charging documents say Ralph Harmon left the scene with the carjacked elderly woman’s vehicle, leaving her to fight for her life in the river.

[The victim] was able to untie her hands with her teeth and exit the water after what she describes as several attempts,” charging documents stated.
According to Wicomico County State’s Attorney Office, the victim was somehow able to climb back onto the pier she was previously thrown from.

This victim is fortunate to be alive,” Wicomico County State’s Attorney Jamie Dykes told TND in a statement. “Ralph Harmon is the embodiment of evil, but thanks to the courage and fortitude of the victim, the work of law enforcement and prosecutors,
and the commitment of the jury, Harmon will be held accountable and I pray that will never again be in the position to prey upon another innocent victim.”
Court documents stated Harmon stole over $1,200 from his victim, including two CashApp transfers to himself.

TND also obtained court records showing Ralph Harmon will face separate felony charges for jury and witness intimidation allegedly committed prior to his case appearing before a judge.

Starting at age 19, Harmon became a habitual violent offender, with a track record of carjacking, rape, robbery and assault. TND was able to identify four separate cases involving Harmon over four years.

Anthony Harmon’s crime spree comes after many parts of Maryland are seeing triple-digit increases of vehicle thefts, drawing the ire of law enforcement and elected officials.

Many claim the state’s increase in juvenile and youth crime are the direct results of recently passed progressive justice reform measures.

Despite bipartisan demands from lawmakers and prosecutors alike, Maryland’s Democratic leadership has refused to heed calls for a special session of the state’s legislature.

Ralph Harmon is expecting to be sentenced in January. He is facing the possibility of two life sentences, plus an additional 50 years in prison.
