BRANFORD — One man and two 17-year-olds have been arrested in the violent assault and torture of a victim that lasted three hours in a wooded area of Branford Sept. 1, Branford police said.
Avante Ryan, a 22-year-old from Hartford, is facing 12 charges including conspiracy to commit first-degree aggravated sexual assault, according to a Facebook post from Branford police Wednesday night. He was held in lieu of a $1 million bond and his
arraignment is scheduled for Thursday in Superior Court in New Haven, police said.
Each of the two 17-year-olds are facing 13 charges, including first-degree aggravated sexual assault, police said, and they were each being held in lieu of $1 million bonds.
Police said the suspects lured the victim to a remote "wooded area" where the victim was held against their will for approximately three hours and subjected to "a series of brutal and heinous acts." During the ordeal, police said the victim endured "
multiple forms of torture," including being "set on fire, pistol-whipped, and sexually assaulted."
Police said they became aware of the incident after receiving information about a video that captured some of the ordeal. They said they later found the victim recovering from their injuries at a local hospital.
Police said that following an investigation they obtained arrest warrants for all three suspects, and all were apprehended "without incident."
Ryan was also charged with first-degree assault, first-degree conspiracy to commit assault, cruelty to persons, conspiracy to commit cruelty to persons, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery, criminal use of a firearm, first-degree
kidnapping with a firearm, police said.
The two 17-year-olds were also charged with cruelty to persons, conspiracy to commit cruelty to persons, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, first-degree conspiracy to commit kidnapping with a firearm, first-
degree threatening and risk of injury to a child, police said.
