BRIDGEPORT — A Bridgeport man, on probation when, police said, he beat and raped a college student earlier this year, pleaded not guilty to numerous charges Tuesday.
Tysaaun Anderson, 22, showed no emotion as he stood before Superior Court Judge Robert Devlin and pleaded not guilty to aggravated first-degree sexual assault, first-degree unlawful restrain, first-degree assault, three counts of first-degree robbery,
criminal possession of a pistol, carrying a pistol without a permit and violation of probation.
He asked for a jury trial.
The judge continued the case to May 10. Anderson is being held in lieu of $1 million bond. Police said he had only been out of prison a couple of weeks when he beat and raped the student on Feb. 6.
The 22-year-old woman had just gotten off a city bus on her way home from class, police said. She was walking home, listening to music on her headphones when, police said, Anderson struck her in the back of the head, knocking her to the ground. He then
dragged her to a driveway where beat and raped the woman, police said.
Police said Anderson fled after taking the victim’s cell phone and money. The woman, who suffered a fractured eye socket, had to undergo facial reconstructive surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Police said they identified Anderson as the assailant from DNA and surveillance video.
Five days earlier, police said, Anderson robbed another young woman at gunpoint in the city using a sport utility vehicle for his getaway. Police said he stole that vehicle from a man at gunpoint outside a store on Wayne Street.
In September 2016, Anderson, who was accused of the August 2012 fatal shooting of a Bridgeport high school student, pleaded guilty to reduced charges of second-degree robbery and interfering with police. He was sentenced to 9 months in prison followed by
five years’ probation.
