MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WSET) -- Two hospital employees in Memphis, Tennessee are accused of repeatedly raping a teenage girl who was getting treatment for suicidal thoughts, according to the teen's family.
Police have arrested and charged Nigel Johnson, 30, and Jarvis Beck, 31, each with statutory rape by a person in a position of authority.
“When you allow your daughter to enter a facility, you hope they’re safe," attorney Parke Morris said of his client's situation to WREG. “These two gentlemen both took turns having sex with this girl repeatedly. It wasn’t one time."
A former employee of Saint Francis Hospital said she alerted hospital management about inappropriate interactions and said the hospital didn't have enough staff.
“If you had a male employee, they couldn’t be in a room by themselves with a female patient. That was violated repeatedly,” Morris said. “That led to a situation where a male employee was allowed in a one-on-one situation with a female patient.
It created an opportunity for this to occur."
The hospital confirmed that Johnson and Beck are no longer employees, but wouldn't comment on anything further due to pending litigation.
But, the family, so far, hasn't filed a lawsuit, according to WREG, which disputes the claim there is "pending litigation" and the only case in court is charges the two are facing from Memphis Police.
The victim's attorney believes there could be more victims.
