ST. LOUIS — Five people were injured Thursday evening, including three juveniles, in a rolling gun battle in the Tower Grove South neighborhood.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Maj. Janice Bockstruck said
officers responded at about 7 p.m. after being alerted to multiple people gathered in a parking lot on the 3700 block of Morgan Ford Road.

"These individuals ended up becoming involved in a gun battle where
numerous shots were exchanged," Bockstruck said.

Everyone fled the area after the shooting, and officers arrived and
secured the scene. They also recovered a vehicle on the parking lot that
had been taken in a carjacking on July 11.

The victims who were shot — a 23-year-old, a 19-year-old, a 24-year-old,
and two 17-year-olds — later arrived at area hospitals. Police described
their conditions as "stable" but gave no further information.

Another vehicle that was used to bring victims to the hospital was also
seized and is being investigated.

Bockstruck said victims were being "very uncooperative" and had given
police little information as of Thursday evening.

In a Friday morning update, police said a review of surveillance footage
from the area revealed that five men exchanged gunshots between each other
when they were shot. Police are continuing to work to find a motive and
who initiated the incident.

"All shootings are very brazen in an occupied neighborhood. This is a neighborhood. This is where people live," Bockstruck said. "It's ... there
is violence in the neighborhood. And that is not what we what we need or
we want. We're here to help curb that activity."
