Since yesterday morning I can't access UCSM in Unison (or Hogwasher or NewsTap). Aioe.org seems to be down, but I've also got Eternal September, and that (the website) seems ok. But no matter what combination of servers I use, none work. This is alsowith NewsTap on cellular. GG looks to be the only way I can access it. I tried Thunderbird but it opened with previous settings and timed out. I deleted the account but now can't see a way to search for newsgroups. I also deleted & reinstalled NewsTap &

Thanks Rob. Are you using Unison? If you see here
https://imgur.com/JhuHJVe although I've entered the ES details it still
says '(Aioe.org)' at the top of the main window. Anyone know how I can
nuke the Unison prefs/cache??

Learn something new every day :-)
I too was affected by aioe quitting the other day. I didn't do anything
right away, waiting to see if it would come back. Today I switched to an
old server I used to use for emergencies (but it only allows reading,
not posting) and found this thread. I have been using MacSoup since
forever and I have to admit that before now I had never heard of Unison,
News Tap, Eternal September, GG or Imgur; Hogwasher yes.
Anyway, I signed up at ES and here I am, a happy camper. :-)

Unison seems to be behaving now (with ES), but it looks like aioe.org
is still down. NewsTap (iOS/iPadOS) is still playing up though - can't
figure out why it's not working.

Maybe you’ve not setup the Server settings correctly in NewsTap. Username, password etc.
I also use SSL.
Hopefully aioe will be back soon as I use it
as a backup to e-s. There doesn’t seem to be any other free nntp service providers. OK there’s GG but I’d rather not.

It just stopped working using the time tested/trusted settings.

Tried that - and each of the 4 or so options ES gives. Aioe was completely inaccessible - even their web page.

Yes, it's nice to have a backup. But when both fail at the same time . . .

I notice that some providers offer free trials so one could take advantage while aioe and e-s are both down!!!!!!

There are a lot of free usenet-providers.
A couple of them have a very bad reputation and are often filtered by
regulars. aioe.org is one of this idiot-servers.
Try this one as second provider:
