• Weird password stuff

From Mark@21:1/5 to All on Thu Feb 2 11:22:38 2023
Yesterday my Gmail accounts started getting the "You must login in to
Google to enter your password" (or similar) pop-ups. All accounts were
    offline in Mail.

Today 2 of my other usenet server (app) logins had lost their password,
AND when I tried looking in Keychain for them it wouldn't allow me to
view them ("You do not have permission on this account" or similar).

Had a couple of other login/passord quirks as well...

A restart has just fixed all of that (except Unison asking for the p/w
    every time I restart it).

    Just a randon glitch...?

In Ventura at least (and maybe earlier - I hadn't had cause to notice)
Mail still connects to the mail server even though the account is offline.

You can see this happening in the preferences > accounts > account
information where there is an online/offline status message. That status
seems to be checked regardless of the account enabled status.

I thought I noticed that at some point but wasn’t sure. All my mailboxes
were offline (had the little indicator next to them). I’ve had that several times in the past and just needed to click ‘Take all mailboxes online’ (or similar). It’s very rare to get the Google pop-ups telling me to log in to each of the Gmail accounts though. It’s just the refusal to let me see my Keychain passwords that really threw me!

All good after a reboot though.

I was mistaken - in my case the the mail server was refusing connections
and when that happens the 'checking' green light stays on for quite a
long time until the connection attempt times out. When things are
working normally, taking the account offline should result in a status
of 'offline' and a red dot within a few seconds.
