    Hello,

After a while I've managed to upgrade to macOS Catalina - seems to be
the most up-to-date I can have - but lots of services seem to be dying
for older OSs... how long do you think I've got left?

I hadn't updated since 2019 (disaster of various sorts interferred with
life) so I've managed to lose Garageband, I can't find an older version
    online anywhere, can you help?

    Thanks,

If you have access to a new-ish Mac that supports the latest version of GB, then there’s a dodge described here that will allow you to install a compatible older version on an ageing Mac. You’ll need to scroll down to
the 2023 update section in the article.

Just tried this technique for my Mojave system - didn't work, giving the usual incompatibilty message :( Never mind hopefully the "reddit" method will work for
    the OP's Catalina system.

GB is in App Store, but only a newer version I can’t use.

And that is most people’s understanding although I did confirm it when
trying to install it from the App Store on my Mojave system. Sadly the
dodge I mentioned earlier didn’t work for me but it doesn’t matter as I also have a Ventura system on which GB works fine.

    Hello again, Kyle

Thank you for responding to me ..... but now I'm even more confused!

My understanding is that you have an Apple Mac computer which is running
macOS Catalina. You have now looked in the Apple App Store on that same computer and found GarageBand.

If you download that GarageBand software onto your computer (the same
one!) what actually happens when you try to 'open' it?
See (blue text) button here saying 'OPEN'? https://ibb.co/7vvCjrq

    Please tell us what happens.

It might also be helpful to know the exact make and model of your
computer. This item can help you with that:- https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201581

Please let readers here know the details (not serial number!)

Yes, it's working fine on my old Late 2013 iMac. This one has the
'Kepler' GPU, which is a little later getting updated, but so far, it
has been updated OK. It does what I need it to anyway, and I'm not using
it for anything 'mission critical' these days (I'm using the iPad Pro
    for that).

So far though, it has been reliable enough, and even all the iCloud
stuff still works OK too - Apple haven't been too bothered by me using
an unsupported device with the latest OS.

If it comes to it becoming unusable, I'd probably wipe it and stick a
Linux on it, just to experiment with.
