Hello,
After a while I've managed to upgrade to macOS Catalina - seems to be
the most up-to-date I can have - but lots of services seem to be dying
for older OSs... how long do you think I've got left?
I hadn't updated since 2019 (disaster of various sorts interferred with
life) so I've managed to lose Garageband, I can't find an older version online anywhere, can you help?
Thanks,

If you have access to a new-ish Mac that supports the latest version of GB, then there’s a dodge described here that will allow you to install a compatible older version on an ageing Mac. You’ll need to scroll down to the 2023 update section in the article.

Yep - but it’s only the latest version which I can’t run on Catalina!

Store on /that/ Mac, are you saying that GarageBand is NOT in that App
Store?
Perhaps it is NOT there! Please confirm that you've looked.
GB is in App Store, but only a newer version I can’t use.

Hmmm. If you have Catalina running on an Apple Mac, if you open the App

If you download that GarageBand software onto your computer (the same
one!) what actually happens when you try to 'open' it?
See (blue text) button here saying 'OPEN'? https://ibb.co/7vvCjrq

I can see GB in the store, but it's a version I can't use with Catalina
- needs to be macOS 12.3 or later... which I can't put on my 11 year of
MBP!

Try OCLP for a newer OS? It says everything is supported on your Mac.

Have you tried Mark’s suggestion described on Reddit? I’d be more inclined
to accept Stuart’s offer of a copy as it’s a reliable source!

Yes I can vouch for that as I was even able to get Ventura running on my ageing MBA. I believe Andy H has had a successful experience with OCLP too. This would be a cheaper alternative at least in the short term of forking
out for a replacement machine.

Will Mark ever speak to me again? I was referring to Reddit generally as a source for links to software. No slur intended.
