Hello,-----
MacCafé is a newsreader for macOS, initially designed for
French-speaking MacSOUP users who needed a 64-bit newsreader that can
run on recent versions of the system. The latest version of MacCafé
(v.3.02) has an interface and documentation translated into English.
MacCafé has some features inspired by MacSoup, such as the graphical
representation of the thread in the message windows, but it also offers
additional features: powerful search tools (in the database or on news
servers), filtering rules applicable when retrieving messages,
Cancel-Lock management, image viewer, multilingual spell checking, etc.
It is a multi-profile, multi-server and multi-base newsreader.
If you are a MacSOUP user, you can import messages stored in your
MacSOUP database into MacCafé.
MacCafé is actively developed by Gilbert OLIVIER using 4D language. It
can be downloaded for free from:
<https://maccafe.fr/en>
If you want to know more about MacCafé before trying it, you can consult
its online documentation:
<http://yakakwatik.org/mc/documentation/en/tarrazu/>
The English translation is probably far from perfect. So any
English-speaking user who finds mistakes is kindly invited to report
them in this thread.

I'll be trying this when the round tuit arrives.

I tried it out a couple or more years ago. It was OK-ish but was not a patch on other clients I use. However, as you say, when the round tuit arrives ;-)

I seem to recall it used the 4D Database to hold its data and you could
only filter on poster id. The latter was enough to put me off! Maybe
things have improved?
At first sight this version seems a lot more powerful - take a look at:
<http://yakakwatik.org/mc/documentation/en/tarrazu/#idocs_installation>
Yes it does but I’ll give it a better test out tomorrow and hopefully import from MacSOUP. I’ve just installed it on Sequoia beta to my M1 MBP and it runs OK so far :)

First of all I doubt whether it will ever become my client of choice. I
agree its development is taking rather a long time. Their use of the 4D database may be playing a large part in the delay? Having said that
what's the harm in trying it out and providing a bit of feedback to the developers. Filters need to have a case insensitive option and the
ability to use regex would be handy.

Tried it years ago, and couldn't get it to work.
I trashed it, and decided to wait for all the bugs to get ironed out.
I did notice however that the database files it creates are much
larger.
And then I thought: why bother with it at all,
when I have the real MacSoup working?

Congratulations on your personal solution. Others may have
different needs, or perhaps we just want a new toy to play with.
You may remember that we exchanged some thoughts on it,
after I introduced the then new MacCafe to ukcsm users.
(yes, that was 53 month ago)
I don't remember, but whatever. At that time I thought it a work
in progress and decided to stop playing with it until it had more
development.
Have you had fun playing with it in the meantime?
The elusive round tuit has not yet arrived
At the time, someone in ukcsm (don't remember who)
already said that the dependence on the 4D database
is a fundamental (and probably fatal) flaw,
I think it was 'nospam' who hasn't posted here or elsewhere for many
months.
Indeed, last seen here nine month ago.
Following your hint I found nospam commenting:
======
MacCafé is made with the 4D language https://fr.4d.com
that's a disaster waiting to happen
======
A clear-headed and far-sighted remark,
that turned out to be entirely justified.
