• Please HELP with Outlook

From Matt@21:1/5 to All on Wed Jul 3 17:16:49 2024
Update your sign-in technology before September 16th, 2024 to maintain email access.

    Hello!

My wife has a MacbookPro Retina 15-inch, Early 2013 running macOS Catalina,
and she uses Microsoft email addresses (Hotmail) for her work.

She has just received a notice saying that she will no longer be able to use it with Apple Mail, text follows:

    -------------------------
Microsoft will no longer support the use of third-party email and calendar
apps which ask you to sign in with only your Microsoft Account username and password. To keep you safe you will need to use a mail or calendar app which supports Microsoft’s modern authentication methods. If you do not act, your third-party email apps will no longer be able to access your Outlook.com, Hotmail or Live.com email address on September 16th. --------------------------------------

The problem is that Outlook for MAC cannot be installed either, since it no longer works with osCatalina, and if you try to install an old version it does not work either.

Has anyone gone through this, or know of a solution?

    Thanks in advance!

    Matt.

OAuth2. Is supported in Mozilla Thunderbird.

    Thanks in advance!

Access hotmail/outlook via a web browser?

As a follow-up I've seen in separate ng that your wife should have received an email with the notification and at the bottom has instructions on how resolve it. Have you/she seen those instructions?

    Thanks Chris!

I see it in an email I received last night, (we are in Spain), and if I understand correctly it seems that removing and installing the email accounts the problem is solved.

It also confirms what Jörg responded yesterday, regarding Thunderbird Mozilla accepting OAuth2.

She knew that she can access the accounts via web browser, but she prefers to do it with the APP because that way she keeps other accounts organized, such
as Google and others, and it also syncs with the iPad and iPhone.

    Again thank you very much!

    Matt.

Glad you got it sorted. However, with an old mac like that and an
unsupported OS this type of thing will unfortunately become increasingly common.

Your wife should start looking to update if she needs this mac to be able
    to work.

Yes... I have already told her several times.
I'm waiting for the next announcements from Apple to buy a new MAC for myself, and then I'll pass my MBP (2019) on to her.

I would like an iMac, but if they don't release one with better RAM than the current one, I will have to decide for a MAC Studio or Mini Mac...the problem will be finding a decent monitor that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

    Regards, Matt.

    Regards, Matt.

I can recommend the huawei MateView, 28" 3:2 4.5k which is what I'm
using with my MacBook M1. Although availability seems annoying.

    Cheers - Jaimie
