• Dropbox under macos file provider works without the app

From Martin-S@21:1/5 to All on Wed Jul 17 09:37:30 2024
I recently upgraded to the new DB for macos File Provider and discovered a
huge benefit. Now that macos is in charge of any form of cloud storage and syncing, DB works without running its dreadful app!

I had seen cases where the DB app was consuming close to 1GB of memory making the Mac feel sluggish. On mine it was a mere 400MB, but it still seemed excessive.

Then there were the annoyances of DB constantly pimping its features and the endless notifications.

Now without the app starting upon login, it's all peace and quiet :)

I think I read somewhere that the DB app used to contain a copy of the
Chrome browser which would add to its memory size when running.

How does one do this? I've been using DB for several macOS versions and have studiously ignored its blandishments to update/upgrade this, that, and the other. So, what have I mistakenly overlooked?

I would think you just need to upgrade to the latest version but you need to check your macos version. It has been around since macOS 12.1 Monterey.

Once the new version is running you need to remove DB from the start-up items and quit the BD menu bar app.
