Linux Mint 22 released (sorta based on Ub 24.04, sorta not so much).

The release notes/ new features says quite a bit about that.

    Thanks for that, Mike.

    I'm currently using LM 21.3 Cinnamon 64-bit

Will I be 'offered' the 'Update' automatically or do I have to
    initiate matters?

I believe you are offered, or you go into the Updates menu and you will
    see the option there.

It makes me laugh. Years ago if you mentioned the idea of *automatic*
updates (having them applied automatically) many of the Lintards would
blow a gasket over the idea.

Their 'reason' is that you would want to check what updates are going to
be applied and do them at your chosen time, which of course for anyone
other than a Lintard meant they were never applied.

Now some of the distros do have the option of applying the updates automatically (Ubuntu / Mint), the Lintards re now pushing that as a
    feature to compete with Windows!

Same with the idea of having something similar to Windows 'Control
Panel' and even the idea of being able to do most admin stuff via the
    GUI FFS!

But then most Lintards thing everyone is as interested in their OS as
they are when 'most people' CCAF about the OS, as long as it allows them
    to DO what they want.

Many thanks for your thoughts on this, Tim.

I've spent a while watching YT videos and 'playing' in Terminal, but
have so far been unable to find a way to Linux Mint 22 :-(

This image may help knowledgeable folk to see where I am right now:- https://i.ibb.co/M8JPxPz/Trying-to-Upgrade-Linux-Mint.png

    Any help welcomed!

    Just give it time.

    Understood.

I meant 'mirrors' rather than repos above but it's the same outcome,
    just not on offer yet.

Given the chances are you wont have much on your machine of interest and
if you have installed Mint with separate root and home partitions you
could just download and install M22 over M21.x today?

Or download and run it from a Pen drive id you what to see what it's about?

It's been some hours now, but no change.

I have happened across an error though, even though it is reported that
"Your system is up to date".

That seems to suggest you are running Kali Linux, (or you are getting
message from a Hindu goddess, telling you you are doing something wrong).

Ha! I'm most definitely running Linux Mint 21.3 ;-)

    Your computer is confused.

It would be in the right place though. ;-)
