• com.apple.mediaanalysisd consuming drive space in 15.1

From Paul Mackenzie Smith@21:1/5 to All on Tue Nov 12 01:03:40 2024
Since updating my mac Mini M1 to macOS 15.1 on 28th October, my computer has been creating a 67.9 MB file roughly every hour when the computer is not in
use in the following location: ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mediaanalysisd/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.m ediaanalysisd/com.apple.e5rt.e5bundlecache/24B83/9CBD0F43A800584A3C4CABAFAE15 CF754A6CC75117BE0645B8F09A3EF4974D11. The files are in the following format, e.g. the latest one is BF43FD565F5326E554005345F8EE2E2C0271B9C0A9695FACB868D079B6B64D88.tmp.1443.bun dle.

As these are cache files, I deleted the Caches folder on 5th. November,
when it had grown to 17.1 GB: since then, the newly-created Caches folder has grown to 3.16 GB. I have rebuilt the Photos library, also run Disk Utility
over the drive. Note that this issue did not occur in macOS 15.0.1. I have submitted a bug report to Apple, but has anyone else suffered from this? And more importantly, does anyone have a solution?

I’ve not updated to 15.1 yet and haven’t seen this problem but it seems you are not alone.

Hopefully Apple will issue a fix sooner rather than later as more people
    file bug reports.

I installed Public Beta 2 of macOS 15.2 last night, and the problem has gone, so it looks like Apple have resolved this issue.

    Good :) I’ll probably skip 15.1 then.

So, if we have, just as a random example, a Mini with 14.7 running on
it, we would be wise to wait until she offers 15.2, at the earliest,
    before running the update wizard?

I'd be using the UKlander-English version.

Would it also be wise to delay the updating of my lovely, little MBP,
    too? She's on 14.7, also, I think.

Well I've not seen any new problems on my M1 MBP since upgrading to
macOS 15. I avoided the problem Paul's highlighted by skipping the 15.1
upgrade and 15.2b2 seems OK so far. As Mrs. B. occasionaly says to me:
"The decision is yours - it's entirely up to you!".

Good, thank you. And I'm pleased for you.

I don't think that I'm offered that one, yet, so I'd have to hunt it
down and shoot it into my machine. That sounds an awful lot like
    *work*.

As Mrs. B. occasionaly says to me:
"The decision is yours - it's entirely up to you!".

I had one who said that to me, too. I was looking for hand-holding, head-patting or just general advice but she let me do pretty much
whatever the hell I wanted to do. Even when I could have done with
    some sensible reining-in.

    She was a strange lady.

She had this weird notion that I was a responsible adult who could
actually manage adulting in an adult manner.

    Weird, right?

Anyway, thank you. I'm still "researching", which is a fancy way of
    describing procrastination and hesitation. :)
