• [OT] Microsoft sponsored emails

From John Hill@21:1/5 to All on Sun Mar 2 14:12:36 2025
Is anyone else having problems with email addresses sponsored by Microsoft?

I have two, one in the outlook.com domain and one provided by the Institute of Physics in the physics.org domain. Both come under the aegis of Microsoft Exchage.

    Chaos reigns supreme.

System Settings keeps asking me to re-enter the passwords. But when I do
either a weird Microsoft gizmo comes up (this has only recently appeared) or I start the 2FA process.

The gizmo used to just log me in, but no longer works.

2FA seems to proceed as it should, and I usually (though not always) get a six digit verification code. When I enter it and click Verify, one of two things happen:
    1. Nothing. I get a Wait spinner that never goes away, even after ten minutes or so. The only exit is to force quit System Settings.
    2. The code is accepted, and all appears well. But in a few minutes I am once again asked to put in the password.

    Meanwhile, neither address is useable.

This is all recent, within the last couple of days. Before then, all worked normally.

Is this peculiar to me, or do others have problems? I had changed nothing. And it applies to the accounts not only on the iMac but also on the iPad and iPhone.

The Yahoo address associated with this account is valid and is not affected;. Nor is my iCloud email address.

    Old John.

Yes I’ve had to re-enter my MS passwords on all my devices and after
several attempts including dealing with the appearance of the gizmo all
    seems well now.

My university has unfortunately switched all its mail over to Microsoft.
It was down for a period yestderday - widely reported, e.g.

My university mail was in this state this morning, but only on one of
my Macs. I had a reason to reboot it anyway and it worked again after
    that.

Yes, I've seen people on FB and Reddit complaining about this for the last 2 >or 3 days.

All seems well today - so far.
