Probably the media content was deleted. Nowadays such links are
encrypted which you can recognise by the "https://". Some browsers even
refuse to open the page at all.

My browsers do not even show a placeholder for the media content
anymore. I checked with Safari on a Mac and Firefox on a Mac.

I have no idea. Maybe get a browser from 2010?

I think in Britain everything is possible even that people leave their
    homes for shopping in PJs.

Britain as whole left the EU even without trousers. So why does all this surprise you?

My guess is that it was a Flash video embedded in an obsolete web page - the video/link is long gone.

    Best contact the BBC.

The BBC has not been very good at keeping archives of its TV material. Lots
of episodes of classic programmes such as Doctor Who, Dad’s Army etc. have been lost, destroyed or the tapes overwritten. So it’s quite likely that
any video associated with the Tesco pyjama article no longer exists. They
may well argue that they don’t the storage capability to keep all video material but as the “national broadcaster” they could do better.

Viewing the page source, there's a link in the player HTML to: http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/emp/8480000/8485500/8485559.xml

    which has a section:

    <item kind="programme" duration="106" identifier="8485559"> <id>tag:bbc.co.uk,2008:cps:story:8485559</id> <media kind="audio" duration="106" type="audio/mpeg"> <connection kind="akamai" application="ondemand" identifier="mp3:public/mp3/news/wales/506000/506696_au_NewsWebMP3" server="cp45413.edgefcs.net"/>

so that's on the Akamai CDN. Unfortunately cp45413.edgefcs.net no longer resolves, so there the trail goes cold. The Wayback machine has (almost) nothing from that server.

It doesn't mean the BBC don't still have it, just that the infrastructure
for serving it has been decommissioned. You'd have to enquire from them whether there's another way to get hold of the artifact, which they may have
on non-public-facing servers or in cold storage.

Yes, it's annoying. I have written to them in the past asking for the release of old Peel sessions etc. I can't remember the reason - it was something obscure about staffing and time - but the answer was no.
