But, I am still a bit perplexed why clicking "Get Album Artwork" seems to
activate such indeterministic machinery.

Just tried it now and in less than a second it told me that no artwork was available for two albums. It did however come up with a Beastie Boys cover for
a Glen Miller compilation.
A crossover I'd never have expected, but now want to hear.
