• Scanners with Monterey

From SM@21:1/5 to All on Tue Jun 7 15:23:04 2022
A Canon scanner (MFD) works OK with Preview in Catalina but is not seen in Monterey.

Is this one of those things that happens in later macOS versions or something at the Canon end? The MFD is attached via USB2.

My scanning needs are very basic so I don't want to go for VueScan etc.

    TIA

You may like to try an iPhone App called PhotoScan.

I've found it extremely useful, having suffered the same fate as you
    with my Canon PSC!

I take it the Canon doesn’t support WiFi / AirPrint? I guess I’ve been lucky with my ageing HP inkjet psc.

    Canon DOES support WiFi/AirPrint

It is the Scanner function which no longer works in conjunction with my
iMac. One may still scan directly on tn the PSC machine.

I think it does 'do' wifi but it was always pretty flakey.

Not sure whether my scanner problem is due to changes in Preview, Monterey or
a combination. I heard Monterey temporarily lost the ability to ingest video via FireWire but got fixed in an update, so I wonder whether this incompatibility is by design or omission.

The same setup works with an even older Epson 4990.

Probably a silly question, but have you checked the Canon support pages for
the latest drivers? I had to update a scanner driver for Catalina and again
    for Monterey.

In any case you should be able to find out what is the most recent
    supported OS.

I was also going to suggest the Gutenprint site but there doesn’t seem to have been any updates since 2019 :(

    Good question - I haven't checked, now I will.

This is true, but I suspect it's irrelevant to your scanner problem.

Yes, it seemed to be an example of something that's unimportant to most people so could have slipped through. I doubt old scanners are at the top of anyone's priorities.
