An iPhone 13 mini looks most suitable. I would have expected the prices of existing iPhones to drop with the launch of the new iPhone 14, but it doesn't seem to have been the case so far.
(Nor indeed does the refurbished products
section of the Apple store seem to have any iPhone 13 models.)
on the other hand, there are plenty of iphone 12 models, including the
12 mini, which was available refurbished a few days ago and gone within
a day. there should be more coming, since it's been discontinued.

I like them even smaller. I use an SE (1st gen) but would prefer one the size of the iPhone 4. Gutted that the SE won't run the new iOS; I have to make the decision between getting a 12 mini or sticking with the old iOS.

I jumped to the SE v2 when I had the opportunity. Still a lot available
on the second-hand market.
