With me I have not done a fresh install since the Classic Mac
    days... I
upgrade in place. Did have one glitch doing so, years ago, but it
    has been
    pretty flawless.

    Lucky you! 😄

There is some luck, but Apple does good work.

Agreed - I'll not be so tempted to simply 'try' things from now on.

???!!! What will you do with all that free time?

Enjoy more of what the Internet has to offer.

    Things like this:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSMuOJ7IrmI

OK, have you with the software you are concerned with?

As far as I'm aware, I've not been troubled with malware on THIS iMac.

How many times have you been troubled by it?

I've not been troubled AT ALL with malware on THIS iMac.

But I no way of knowing or testing that - apart from running third party
Apps. This is what I found recently:- https://ibb.co/fDD0GMH

    You have 4593! Oh man, you're f*cked 🙁

Nah! That was BEFORE I erased my hard drives!

You don't KNOW that it was "a bad download"!

    What other explanation is there?

I asked you to discuss this as a question for Howard Oakley. You
    declined.

    Why would he?

I had hoped he would do so as it was me who asked him to do so.

Nor with ANY software. Not sure why the focus would be on those two.

    Oops! THREE!

Why? Because the product developers have not been open and honest
    with me.

They wouldn't divulge their financials or if they or there partners were gay, etc., the nerve!

    It's "THEIR".

FromTheRafters is just about as wary as folk come, but he knows that I
CARE about people; I don't wish them harm. He's share much of his
personal life with me without ill effect.

PROFESSIONAL folk, who market COMMERCIAL software products, need to be
    open and honest. Always.

I have 'tested' you, Snit, in a myriad of ways yet not once have you
    chosen to block me.

He doesn't block me, either. Of course, he does pretend to when I ask
too many of the 'wrong' questions and people start noticing his goofy boilerplate (non)responses, so I wouldn't read too much in this.

He's proven to me that he's 'a bonza bloke' - you have not. 🙁

We continue to communicate - that is so very
    important, to me, anyway.

That's the REAL reason I wiped my hard disks.

What do you think would happen if you did not. Not just that you
    fear you
would have malware... what do you think the malware might do? What
    do you
    think others are facing?

    My concerns are twofold:-

    1. Folk may get co-opted into a Botnet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botnet

    2. Folk may be 'persuaded' to part with thier hard-earned money

    I hope these answers help.

Yes, that's you, altruistic to the core... your 'friend' like to see
himself that way, as well <eyeroll>.

    Indeed!

Helping others, especially those less fortunate than yourself, can help
    put things
into perspective and make you feel more positive. There is some evidence
    that being
aware of your own acts of kindness and the things you are grateful for
    can increase
feelings of happiness, optimism, and satisfaction.

    You should try it. ❤️
