In the process of updating to it now. Yes I had noticed the battery on my iPhone 11 was draining more rapidly than say a year ago but I put it down
to ageing. So we’ll see what happens now.

I tend not to pay much attention to it, but noticed recently it did
seem to need a top-up more often than usual. Had a bit of a search and
it seems 16.1/16.1.1 were all getting quite a few battery drain
    comments regarding the 11/12/13/14 iPhones.

I've not noticed battery issues, but I have noticed my XR stuttering a lot
more than usual since 16.1x In particular when swapping to a different app
and wanting to type quickly. There's often a lag in response.

An out of sequence update like this that references the Apple security
updates page which just has the place holder "(details available soon)"
will no doubt subsequently include the phrase "Apple is aware of a
report that this issue may have been actively exploited” when it is updated...

    Hello again, John

I'm delighted to learn that your iPhone has been updated to iOS 16.1.2

The GOOD news is that your iPad operating system is ALSO up-to-date! :-D

    It's called iPadOS 16.1.1

    The operating systems are DIFFERENT!

    I hope this helps!

iOS/iPadOS update availability for a given iModel does not end on random
point versions. The cutoff is always a full version, like iOS 17, iOS 23 whatever.

iOS 16.1.2 is indeed available. iPadOS is currently 16.1.1, meaning either that whatever issue was fixed in iOS 16.1.2 did not apply to iPadOS OR
iPadOS 16.1.2 is not ready yet.

Its happened before. Relax. Nothing to worry about here.

As for me, I’m still on 15.7.1 on everything until 16 stabilizes. I am never in a rush to update anything.

It gets up my nose. I don't need or use it (my use of the iPad does not

It's not on offer; according to iPadOS Settings/Update my iPad is up to >>>> date.

give it a little more time.

Clearly there is no iPadOS 16.1.2 release. Yet.

maybe they're skipping it for 16.2. no big deal. 16.1.1 is *not* the
    end of the line.

Probably released by the end of this year.

An out of sequence update like this that references the Apple security
updates page which just has the place holder "(details available soon)"
will no doubt subsequently include the phrase "Apple is aware of a
report that this issue may have been actively exploited” when it is
    updated...

Yes that’s a very likely scenario. BTW no impact on my iPhone’s battery drain so a replacement seems pending :(

    Lo and behold:

iOS 16.1.2 addresses the following issues.
Information about the security content is also available at https://support.apple.com/HT213516.

    WebKit
Available for: iPhone 8 and later
Impact: Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary
code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited against versions of iOS released before iOS 15.1. Description: A type confusion issue was addressed with improved state
    handling.
    WebKit Bugzilla: 248266
CVE-2022-42856: Clément Lecigne of Google's Threat Analysis Group

And it's so bad that Apple have backported it to iOS 15.7.2 and iPadOS
    15.7.2

    Immediately.

Worth noting that this exploit is also addressed in Ventura 13.1, Safari
    16.2 and tvOS 16.2.

Not mentioned for iPadOS 16.2, I guess because it's a common list
between iOS and iPadOS and on phone it had already been addressed with
    iOS 16.1.2.
