• Usenapp and X-Face

From John Hill@21:1/5 to All on Mon Dec 19 17:05:47 2022
The new version of Usenapp is out and does display X-Faces.

    But beware!
    1. Your existing X-Face, if you have one,is not ported across.
    2. When you re-enter it, do NOT include the preamble "X-Face: ". Just paste in the string. Otherwise you will get garbage!

In the previous version you had to include the preamble.

You can enter multiple newsgroups in the newsgroup text field.

    "Followup-to" is also supported.

Is there ANY Usenet reader that does mark posts as read in a group you haven't
    looked at?

Yes. It's relatively simple for Usenet where each post ("article") has a
unique article ID, and crossposting puts a single message with
(naturally) the same article-ID in both groups. This allows a newsreader
to mark read once and that article will be marked read everywhere *if*
the newsreader operates on the same basis as the Usenet servers do.

If a reader goes through each group downloading articles and pops them
into a local cache/db by group, then that simple form of
mark-read-everywhere may not work naturally and has to be added.

I have no idea what Usenapp does; I killfile on any post that goes to
more than two newsgroups and every post that includes certain groups due
to fuckwits so this is the first crosspost I've seen in ages.

    Cheers - Jaimie

I also notice if you read a cross-posted thread in one group, it is
not marked as Read in the other groups. NewsTap has this same
    problem.
Yep, that is my only complaint about Usenapp.
I hope it will get sortet out in the near future.

i do recall you admitting that was an issue, but apparently not in that
    particular thread.

i tried usenap a month or so ago and saw what was described. it has not
been fixed nor has it 'aways been that way'.

Crossposting (posting!) is supported from the start.
Marking articles as read in all crossposted newsgroups is not, but from what I
understand that was not your question.

    you understand incorrectly.

Then the question was not clear.

Pleeeeease implement that in the next update.
It is my only major complaint about Usenapp.
If I read an article once I want it to be marked read everywhere.

of course it's possible. it's been a fundamental feature of newsreaders
    going back to the 1980s.

Getting pissy at developers rarely encourages them to add a feature
    you're asking for, I've found.

it'm not being pissy. it's a valid question as why it isn't there.

I have no idea what Usenapp does; I killfile on any post that goes to

That’s essentially what I try to do. The f*****r I believe you are

    nym shifting.
