WTF is wrong with spending a few pence on some new ones?

There's nothing TF wrong with spending a few pence on some new ones. Proprietary replacements are relatively expensive and my initial
searches did not throw up the excellent link you've provided.

    So thank you, I think.

I was watching a YouTube video with some guy recommeding using these to
"ground himself" while working on static sensititive electronics.

Seem excessive and in the mantra of audiofool probably, but I hope he
has a current limiting safety resistor in-line somewhere...

Combining two Logitech Squeezeboxes into one unit.

Mostly people used velcro conductive cuffs for this. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aituo-Anti-Static-Adjustable-Grounding-Discharge-Black/dp/B019DDPIVK

I am not sure anyone bothers any more· Most chips have built-in
    protection these days

After a while the electrode pads for EMS/Tens type machines lose their stickiness. Anyone any experience on revitalising them without trying

I have a Tens machine I bought (near on) 20 years ago.

I was able to find 'pads' for it recently on Ebay quite cheaply.

There is a surprising range on there. Even if you can't match by make,
try by connection- the 'press stud' size etc.
