You didn't think they would do anything they didn't legally have to.
Anyway the news has been overtaken by Reeves and Milliband's disastrous policies now forcing us towards recession.

And Reform now neck and neck with Labour and ahead of the Tories.

Have some popcorn. The charades continue.

good people out there who put their names to the petition. I think that
each and every one of them can feel that tonight they have been part of democracy. That is how we do things in this country. Thank you."

This is how we do things in this country, have a great charade of a
debate, ponce around with stupid comments like "Will my hon. Friend give
way?" and "I give way to my hon. Friend with the greatest pleasure." and
"My hon. Friend has my gratitude." then effectively tell the electorate to
    F off.

I don't recall a government which got off to such a bad start in the
last half-century. I can see the thought behind getting the bad stuff
out of the way early, so the goldfish have forgotten five years later,
but they seem to have gone a bit over the top.

I can see we're gonna need another Maggie to put the unions back in their box (and then take the box to the Tip). That won't happen until the shit really hits the fan, as was the case in 1979 with the winter of discontent bollocks. Still, this lot have started well in terms of getting to that point, and with the unions behaving like all blackmailers do (that is, threatening to come
back for more), hopefully it shouldn't take too long.

I hadn't realised that the RMT are just like the print unions used to be,
until I had a chat with someone (retired now) who was a steward on one of the cross-channel ferries. Then I understood why that little contretemps at Dover occurred, and how right P&O was to do it.

Unions are easier to understand when you realise they are just
businesses, with a profit motive and no obligations to anyone but their customers. To maintain those profits, they must regularly deliver the
goods to their customers, i.e. pay rises to their members.

The Labour Party is another business, basically the CBI to trades
unions, and again has no obligations to anyone but its subscribers. As,
of course, does the Conservative Party, but that generally solicits
donations from anyone, not just a limited group of organisations, so it
has a wider set of obligations.
