• Treating Old Scaffold Board Shelves

From RJH@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jan 20 13:00:20 2025
I've made up some shelves in the front room alcoves out of used scaffold boards. I gave them a quick going over with an orbital sander, but the dust they threw up put me off getting too enthusiastic. The boards seem to be
deeply ingrained with what looks like plaster - but could be anything. So I just washed them down, put them up, and left them for the past year or so.

I'd now like to seal them in some way. Could anyone recommend a varnish or similar that might do the job, and in the process 'fix' the remains of the dust? I want to keep the wood look, so reasonably transparent.

Oiling them with Osmo or Danish oil is better than polyurethane, and
    easily touched-up if needed
