• Tracking (phone) location for reassurance

From David@21:1/5 to All on Fri Jan 31 19:16:42 2025
My partner and I usually keep in touch over WhatsApp.
Today I posted to the wrong chat by mistake, and so was off the radar for
    a while.

Considering automatic phone tracking in the future.

The downside is that any background automatic phone tracker will rely on a central server to store and distribute location updates.
    So security risks.
Does anyone use such a service?
Often used to track kids, and we are really just big kids.

    Any recommendations welcome.

    Cheers

    What type of phone?

The standard location sharing facility on Android devices seems to work
well, and does not share anything they don't already know!

Almost everything in my case. I have a throwaway email address with
an empty Google account to use when I (very occasionally) actually
have to log in to Google on my Android phone. 99% of the time it
remains unlogged in to any account. I use it only for making calls
and SMS. Much of the time it sits in my study on the charger, not
    going around with me.

For 2FA calls and such I have an A&A VOIP account with a mobile
    number.

Two fairly recent (few years) Android phones.

"standard location sharing facility on Android devices"

Could you be more specific, please? :-)

So far I can see that using Google features can probably solve this.

    Cheers

And if you do indefinitely, you will get occasional emails reminding you
that you are sharing with however many people.

Once on, the the see where you are on google maps...

    Off radar for a while?

You posted to the wrong chat? So you accidentally told your mistress
that you love her and accidentally told your wife you were going to shag
her senseless? Or was the wife unable to tell when you last looked at
    WhatApp?

Posted from my phone to my tablet instead of from my phone to the phone +tablet+partner's phone chat.

So I thought that I'd updated where I was, but hadn't.

    Not very complicated, is it?

    Cheers
