• Supplier of 400mm diameter strong plastic bags?

From No mail@21:1/5 to All on Sat Mar 22 13:36:19 2025
I need a few round plastic bags for my chip extractor: 400mm diameter by 500mm'ish high. I can find suppliers for large, industrial, quantities
but not for 5, say. I'd be grateful if someone could demonstrate their
    superior google'fu ...

How robust do they need to be and is it single use or multiple use?

    Rubble sacks

    Maybe https://www.amazon.co.uk/Equip247uk-Woven-Polypropylene-Rubble-Builder/dp/B075F7PS6H

    £11 for 10

    Maybe https://www.amazon.co.uk/EQUIP247UK-BLACK-Heavy-Rubble-Builders/dp/B09LVVHVV3

If found the plastic sacks to be variable in quality but in places like
pound stretcher, home bargains, the range etc. you may find them cheaper
and more to the point you can check the thickness of the plastic and see
if they are likely to be robust enough for your intended use. My local council take garden waste (at a cost) and the sacks used are not that
thick) - around the same thickness as heavy duty refuse sacks also sold
    in the 'German' supermarkets.

    Maybe https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bigbagland-10x-Mini-Builders-Bags/dp/B09XJ2XCDM/

    £27 for 5

If you are a gardener and buy compost you may find that empty bags of
50L capacity suitable. I always keep empty compost and building sand
bags as they come in handy for disposing of more heavy weight rubbish

+1 for the rubble bags but I doubt you will get any that are round in
shape. If the shape is critical would the 120L version of these garden
    waste bags do?

Thanks for the suggestions but they really do need to be a cylinder,
with diameter 400 and height 500'ish. That last link give me an idea ...
I have a large number of the 1T bags that sand and gravel are delivered
in - I wonder if I could persuade SWMBO to cut'n'sew one into the right
shape (probably not, but it may be worth a try)

It doesn't need to be self-supporting. It fits inside a collection drum, underneath a chip-separating "cyclone", and has a former inside it to
    maintain it's shape.

Things like rubble sacks would just conform to the shape they are forced
into. Many people have kitchen rubbish bins either round or square in
shape. The same rubbish sack fits both.

Around my way where the council rubbish is collected in rubbish sacks*
many people just line a plastic dustbin with the sacks to fill them
before putting the sacks out for collection.

*Soon to have 3 off wheelie bins per house where there are multiple
streets with no easy access to back gardens/yards and if there is space
at the front of the property it has been been converted to a hard stand
    that just fits one car.

that's made me realise that 400mm diameter would be about 630mm

Yes, I ought to have said "cylindrical"

Ooops! Embarrassment time! I've just stumbled over the manual on the
web; despite the drum being 400 diameter they specify the bag as being
500 diameter :-( A reminder to look for and RTFM in future.

Thanks to all for their efforts to help.

    pretend it's an Axminster AW118CI
    That's a fair cop - it's a Jet JCDC-1.5 Cyclone Extractor

Bags for the above - & I'd bet they are not round

Thanks, but they are 785mm "flat", so roughly 500mm diameter ... but
...   that's made me realise that 400mm diameter would be about 630mm
"flat", which gives me something else to search for

I've never seen or heard of round collection bags for domestic
extractors (I stand to be corrected) but there are shaped filter bags.

Gah! Another f'ing mistake. The canister bag is spec'd at 500 and the
drum bag at 660 - no idea why. Perhaps I should just go back to bed and
give up on trying to do anything today :-(

    20” x 30” any good?

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115101092723?

EBay is a good source for smaller quantities of stuff sold commercially in
bulk sometimes. Search there and maybe you’ll find something better.

You didn't tell us the make & model of your chip extractor so let's

Even so, every collection bag I have seen for a (domestic)
    dust/chippings has been flat.
As long as the bag will fit over the drum any excess in length or width
can be folded before clamping. You only need to stop the air escaping & throwing dust into your breathable air.
