Plusnet has recently announced that it will be outsourcing its email
service to some outfit called Greenby as from 14th July.

All Plusnet email mailboxes and Plusnet webspace will be migrated to
Greenby and will - it is claimed - work exactly as before.

For email accounts associated with a current broadband account there
will be no charge for the first two years - not guaranteed free after that.

For email accounts not associated with a current broadband account (e.g. where you've cancelled the BB but retained the email account) there will
be a charge of £15 p.a. after the first month.

I've got one of the first type and a couple of the second type.

It seems like a good time to get my own domain plus an email service
which is independent of any BB supplier - so that I would no longer be
    tied to Plusnet.

I'm looking for the most cost effective way of doing this. So I need a
domain name and a reliable email service with (say) 20 mailboxes and preferably with spam filtering.

Recommendations - particularly from personal experience - will be very
    much appreciated.

I am in a similar position to the OP - I have already migrated several
email domains/accounts to Mythic Beasts, and am now moving the Plusnet/F9-specific accounts to the same place. The cost (for extra MB
email space) is slightly cheaper when compared with what Plusnet are
mentioning for Greenby, but I am much happier with my arrangement in any
case. FWIW Plusnet email has been unreliable for a while now.

I am a little unclear how Plusnet plan to keep in touch with me when
    this change occurs...

Due to the low volume of traffic in the feedback group, I only saw Bob’s
post a few days ago. I’d have to say that there are people all over Usenet who are complaining about what is now short notice to get things changed,
if that’s the route they want to go for instead of the Greenby migration.

I’ve always used different suppliers for email and Usenet, so this change won’t affect me, but plenty of people seem rather put out by it.

I guess there will be further complaints when the migration email goes out…

Hi, The fact is that you are being migrated from your Plusnet included email service, which is free, to what is to become "Within two years", a paid service, which means that apart from collecting your login details and passwords of your now Plusnet
mail accounts, you are expected to pay to supply a very long list of information to your new mail service, in this case Tucows alias Enix alias HostPresto! alias greenby. The fact is that your mail is hosted (if you transfer) to HostPresto!. Greenby Ltd.
is the front end, the fixers and is based in a private house.

HostPresto! I should imagine, also host domains.
