Plusnet has recently announced that it will be outsourcing its email
service to some outfit called Greenby as from 14th July.
All Plusnet email mailboxes and Plusnet webspace will be migrated to
Greenby and will - it is claimed - work exactly as before.
For email accounts associated with a current broadband account there
will be no charge for the first two years - not guaranteed free after that.
For email accounts not associated with a current broadband account (e.g. where you've cancelled the BB but retained the email account) there will
be a charge of £15 p.a. after the first month.
I've got one of the first type and a couple of the second type.
It seems like a good time to get my own domain plus an email service
which is independent of any BB supplier - so that I would no longer be
tied to Plusnet.
I'm looking for the most cost effective way of doing this. So I need a
domain name and a reliable email service with (say) 20 mailboxes and preferably with spam filtering.
Recommendations - particularly from personal experience - will be very
much appreciated.

I am in a similar position to the OP - I have already migrated several
email domains/accounts to Mythic Beasts, and am now moving the Plusnet/F9-specific accounts to the same place. The cost (for extra MB
email space) is slightly cheaper when compared with what Plusnet are mentioning for Greenby, but I am much happier with my arrangement in any case. FWIW Plusnet email has been unreliable for a while now.
I am a little unclear how Plusnet plan to keep in touch with me when
this change occurs...

Bob gave us early news abut it in plusnet.service.customer-feedback,
they'll be emailing people as and when their turn comes ...
Due to the low volume of traffic in the feedback group, I only saw Bob’s post a few days ago. I’d have to say that there are people all over Usenet who are complaining about what is now short notice to get things changed,So let the Greenby migration happen, then they have two years to move it somewhere else, before they start getting charged ...
if that’s the route they want to go for instead of the Greenby migration.
I have already got a separate email contact
address so that messages from them such as monthly account statements go
to both addresses, but they have sent me nothing on this to either address.

I've just gone into my Mailbox management portal on my Plusnet online account, (and you're transported back about 20 years, as far as look and
feel is concerned)
I can't find any option to kill my email account stone dead ? (which I'd
like to do, given the impending changes)

I think I'll go with Spike's advice, and wait for the email.
Hi, If you do a whois on greenby, followed by a search of the company in companies house you will find that they are indeed a registered UK
company, You will find the names of the directors and ther company base, which is a three quarters of a million pound house in an exclusive area!

reason I am unable to access my 'Manage Your Account' page on Plusnet -
it redirects to a general status page. Multiple support calls have
been made regarding this but no-one seems to be able to fix it.
It seems to be related to the age of my account (eg. when it was F9).
I will probably have to raise this again with them...
