• McAfee problems

From Iain@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jul 7 12:47:08 2025
I'm trying to uninstal McAfee from an HP desktop running Win 11 Pro.
I've used McAfee's uninstall program but I'm still getting pop-ups.
I've checked that there is no trace of the program in 'Programs and
features'. Anyone got ideas as to how I can resolve this?
    TIA
    Iain

I had the same problem. The normal uninstall doesn't uninstall
    everything (surprise surprise).

I found the remains of the McAfee package by going to the settings page
of Win11/Apps/Installed Apps, and uninstalling from there.

Also in the win11 search box type "Startup" and select Startup App
Disable any MCAfee entry there and close down your computer before
    starting it again.

From memory, I had to open the Registry Editor (regedit) and remove
every entry for McAfee I found there.

Google registry backup/restore before messing around with the registry

Normal uninstalls usually uninstall very little. I always use Revo Uninstaller (free version) which runs the official uninstaller then
scans for leftovers in the reistry and files, which you can select and
    delete as you wish.

I've come to believe that some of these virus checkers are viruses in themselves.

If all else fails try the McAfee Removal Tool (MCPR): https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/mcafee_consumer_product_removal_to ol.html
Be aware that McAfee's own page on this subject suggests that you must be connected to the internet to, "allow McAfee to release the license": https://www.mcafee.com/support/s/article/000001616
