• How to Remove 'Reply' from toolbar

From Fredxx@21:1/5 to All on Sat Jul 19 15:07:01 2025
Yes, I have foolishly updated Thunderbird and I now have a Reply button
    before Followup.

I have removed or move the Reply button in the past but cannot fathom
    how to repeat this.

Any clues would be gratefully received.

    Simples.
    Right click the reply button.
    Select "customise toolbar"
Click the Reply button and select "hide"
    Click "close"

    Job done, drink beer.

That used to work perfectly, exactly as you explained it. Now, it
doesn't work, except "drink beer" always works.

I have an add-on that sorts out the problem, nattily called:
    Message Header Toolbar Customize

Thank you for confirmation of the problem. The "Reply" button is a pain
right where it hurts, since it just where you need the Followup button
    to be.

I use an older verion of Thunderbird. No problems at all.

Drinking beer is very simple but the right click on the reply button,
    less so.

I'm sure it use to work but I think JNugent's idea is becoming the best solution.

Ah! Turns out I have an ESR version installed here. I now remember
switching to an ESR version to save me from the constant fuck-ups, sorry
UI re-designs that the release versions suffer from.

I'm loathed to try the latest Thunderbird now for this problem alone.

I had a play with v140 on Linux and found you can't simply change the
buttons any more. It's good to know that there is a plug in to solve a
problem that wasn't a problem till the upgrade ;-)

Also if you run version 140 on a profile created by version 128 then it
changes the profile so you cannot go back to version 128. I suspected I
had read 140 did this so made a profile back before trying 140.

I installed the latest and it works for me.

The latest is a 'special' version that has no maximum TB version check.

    I am on 2.4.1 updated 25 July 2025

    I. OTOH, am still using Thunderbird version 24.1.0 (years old by now)
which doesn't present the user with the problem of the unwanted and apparently unmovable "reply" button.

No. That appeared on version 78

The extension is very good and works on all later models but isn't
    routinely 'found' by T-bird
