• Should Europe consider a military alliance with China?

From Roger Hayter@21:1/5 to All on Wed Feb 19 19:48:12 2025
seeing that Trump appears to want to make such an alliance with Russia.

The Chinese could hardly be more perfidious than the Americans, let alone the Russians. And we could offer them strategic moral support, say regarding Taiwan.

I dont think that China would or could protect EU from russia, although
it might welcome the EU as an ally against trump. China and Russia are
too strongly aligned to be prized apart by trumps overtures and
concessions to Putin. I'm sure theyr both overjoyed to see trump
attacking americas friends and allies. It can only increase their own
influence and diminish that of the USA.

Now that Trump is Putin's poodle he won't be needing to use the UK as an unsinkable aircraft carrier for BMEWS Site 3 (aka RAF Fylingdales).

Greenland should also throw the US military out of Thule BMEWS Site 1
for the same reasons (now called Site J).

Since Trump is so transactional we might have some leverage if the
threat to do this was made with sufficient vigour. Although it is
entirely possible that he is now so delusional that he thinks Putin is
his friend (or maybe he really is the Manchurian candidate writ large).
But with a Russian ex-KGB puppet master rather than a Chinese one.

I fully expect Trump next to offer to sell the Taiwanese down the
river/"across the straits". He seems to like dealing real estate.

To be fair, isn't the state of Taiwan merely an artefact of America's military protection of the remnants of Kuomintang after the Chinese revolution? Not really been a country with a long and proud history since then.
