    for how long

I remember when people were complaining about the existing 2m FM
simplex and repeater channels being full in the 80s and gradually
spreading over more and more frequencies in the all mode section.
Eventually people became bored with 2m voice and moved onto other
things like packet radio, much of 2m became very quiet and then turned
    into the more recent desert.

FT8 only goes where it's told to go, so unless the developers add more
default frequencies in the programs or operators add some in themselves
it won't spread any more than it already does.

We may be at the point where the old use-it-or-lose-it prophecy comes
true, but given the huge tracts of LTE bandwidth at 700MHz and
everywhere up to mmWave the amateur allocations may not matter much as
they're too narrow to be worth using and too low frequency for
efficient antennas on mobile terminals such as phones. LTE took some of
the 3.5GHz amateur allocations, it's unlikely to go much below that for
now and even then it will likely be taking over more DTV allocations
that die out as people increasingly stream TV over fibre connections.
