Although I have not looked around, I see you can buy 2 Beofeng 5W UHF
hand portables on eBay for £22.99. On the way somebody makes a
profit. I know quality control is a bit hit and miss but these prices
are stupid. They come with batteries, chargers, carrying straps and
belt clips. How do they do it and make profits?

    I've ordered 4!

I think they are the same as the two I bought a year or two back. I think
they changed the model number and perhaps tweaked the design just before I bought mine but there was a near identical earlier model.

Basic construction is ok. Not as robust as a Yaesu but, for the money, a bargain.

Like most similar radios, they really don’t have the front end performance for a decent antenna. But are fine with the supplied rubber bendy thing
    they are designed to use.

I think they are the same as the two I bought a year or two back. I think they changed the model number and perhaps tweaked the design just before I bought mine but there was a near identical earlier model.

Basic construction is ok. Not as robust as a Yaesu but, for the money, a bargain.

Like most similar radios, they really don’t have the front end performance for a decent antenna. But are fine with the supplied rubber bendy thing
    they are designed to use.

compare them to a wouxons and you will see their shortcomings

The, much more, expensive Wouxon is a more capable radio in terms of
frequency entry etc but even they suffer if you stick a decent antenna on
them. Depending how you look at it, they either didn’t include bits they thought wouldn’t be needed in normal use ie they built to the basic requirement, or they simply ignored good RF design. Do you expect a car to
have tow bar most people don’t need? Of all our cars we’ve owed, I only fitted two with tow bars.
